Urban Waste Management New habits to make when dealing with your Waste

While we are all trying hard to fight the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities (Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Porto, Póvoa de Varzim, Valongo and Vila do Conde) are asking population to observe new rules in the handling of household waste.

Is anyone in your household infected or under surveillance because is suspected to have COVID-19? Your waste can also be infected. In this case, you should:

  • Place all the waste produced by the patient and its caregiver in a resistant and disposable garbage bag. Please fill it to 2/3 (two thirds) of its capacity - DO NOT FULLY FILL THE BAGS;
  • The tied up tightly bag must be placed inside a second bag, also tied, and placed in the general waste container;
  • The bags must always be placed inside the waste bin - DO NOT LEAVE BAGS ON THE FLOOR OR AROUND THE CONTAINERS. If the containers are full, look for another one nearby or bring it home again until the container is available.

If you do not have infected or under surveillance people in your household you should keep the usual procedures, properly separating your waste and sorting it in the usual bins. Please note that for the disposal of protection items like gloves, masks and tissues you must always use the GENERAL WASTE container!

LIPOR and its municipalities will keep doing everything to ensure the best service to the populations they serve. And they thank you everyone for their understanding for any further adaptation to service that may be necessary.

Stay alert to your Municipality and LIPOR’s statements! For everyone’s safety!
