Energy Recovery Plant

LIPOR's Energy Recovery Plant: from trash to energy!

During your visit to the Energy Recovery Plant, you can discover the entire process of energy production starting from the trash that cannot be used for composting or recycling. This trash that is produced in our Associated Municipalities goes through a burning process where steam is produced, which is sent to a turbine and electricity is generated.

You can also visit the Maia Landfill Site, which is adjacent to the Energy Recovery Plant. This is where byproducts resulting from the energy recovery process go. During the visit you can also explore the Landfill's Leachate Treatment Station and learn about the treatment process through Reverse Osmosis.
Find out more about the Energy Recovery Plant and about the Maia Landfill Site.

Visits to the Energy Recovery Plant are available to High School students onwards, and each group shall have a maximum of 25 students. These visits last approximately one hour and a half.

For safety reasons, visits to the Energy Recovery Plant depend on the Programmed Technical Stoppage periods.
For your own safety, when walking through LIPOR's facilities, you must always stay on the routes marked for pedestrians, as you are inside an industrial unit with intense and constant circulation of heavy vehicles and industrial machinery.

Booking requests are always subject to subsequent written confirmation from LIPOR.
