To ensure the production of high quality natural organic compost, it is crucial that the waste received at Lipor Organic Recovery Plant (ORP) have a high content of organic matter.
In this sense, Lipor has implemented several projects to promote the sorting of the organic fraction contained in municipal waste, as in the case of "Operation 5 Star Restoration” directed to establishments of HORECA channel (hotels, restaurants and coffee-shops) and similar.
Under the "Operation 5 Star Restoration” there are currently 18 organic waste selective collection circuits at Lipor associated Municipalities: Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Porto, Póvoa de Varzim, Valongo and Vila do Conde, and through established protocols for this purpose, in the municipalities of Esposende; Viana do Castelo and Ambisousa Intermunicipal System.
In 2014, the initiative covered 1,750 establishments and resulted in the daily collection of 23 kilograms of organic waste per establishment. It should be noted the excellent quality of the received material, since in more than 4,000 annual discharges, not been identified any situation of non-compliance.
Organic waste were recovered through the process of composting in OVP, giving rise to the production of a 100% natural organic compost - NUTRIMAIS, whose regular application in soils results in improving their natural fertility and contributes to a more sustainable agricultural production.
Returning organic matter to Earth is OUR commitment!
