Do you already know where your cork stopper goes? New rules for recycling cork
The Portuguese Environment Agency has updated the rules regarding what can be delivered to recycling points. One of the important changes concerns the recycling of cork stoppers.
What has changed?
Before:
Cork stoppers should be removed from bottles and taken to specific collection points (such as Mobile Recycling Centres and hypermarkets).
Now:
You can now deliver cork stoppers placed in empty bottles to the green Eco container.
However, you can still follow the previous procedure, delivering corks individually to specific collection points, such as:
- Mobile Drop-of-Site
- Locations participating in the Cork by Cork – Sow Collection program
- Hypermarkets
This new guideline makes recycling easier and helps ensure that this natural and recyclable material finds the best possible destination.
The updated list of waste that can be placed in recycling points is available on the Portuguese Environment Agency website. This list may be adjusted in the future to reflect new European rules on packaging and recycling.
