LIPOR establishes cooperation with the Maio Biodiversity Foundation within the scope of the CITRES Project

LIPOR has established a partnership with Fundação Maio Biodiversidade (FMB), a non-governmental environmental organization based on Maio Island, within the scope of the CITRES Project – Integrated Collection and Treatment Centre for Solid Waste of Maio Island.

As a strategic local stakeholder, FMB will cooperate with LIPOR International – Global Waste Management in the implementation of the Community Consultation and Activation Campaign, to be carried out on Maio Island until the end of 2026.

The campaign, designed by LIPOR International – Global Waste Management in partnership with Camões, I.P., aims primarily to inform and engage the population regarding the CITRES Project, promoting the active involvement of the community, addressing questions and concerns, and preparing citizens for the future implementation of the island’s new urban waste collection and recovery system.

Due to its close relationship with the community and its in-depth knowledge of the territory, social context, and environmental reality of Maio Island, Fundação Maio Biodiversidade was identified from the outset as a key stakeholder to actively cooperate in the implementation of the CITRES Project.

This partnership reinforces the collaborative engagement strategy that has been promoted within the scope of the CITRES Project, based on the creation of synergies with local stakeholders and strategic entities, contributing to an integrated approach across the different levels of intervention and strengthening the local community’s ownership of the project.

CITRES is a project funded by the European Union and Camões, I.P., with the participation of LIPOR as the implementing partner and waste management specialist and has been under implementation since 2024.
