LIPOR is with Portuguese companies that bet on Circular Bioeconomy for a more sustainable economy

BCSD Portugal launched the CEO Guide to the Circular Bioeconomy, which aims to give business leaders an understanding of the concept and opportunities that Circular Bioeconomy has to offer the private sector. The recognition that natural capital is finite requires companies today to adapt quickly and enormously to their activities and operation of the value chain, in order to incorporate the principles of Circular Bioeconomy.

The CEO Guide to the Circular Bioeconomy identifies the five urgent environmental priorities: 1) climate change; 2) scarcity of resources; 3) loss of biodiversity; 4) changes in land use; and 5) food loss and waste and presents a common solution for all - Circular Bioeconomy.

Its Portuguese version includes six examples, developed within the scope of the BCSD Portugal Bioeconomy Working Group, by Cortadoria Nacional de Pêlo, EDP, Jerónimo Martins, LIPOR, PRIO and The Navigator Company, alongside other successful international business cases.

About the Guide, the BCSD Portugal Secretary General, João Wengorovius Meneses, recalls that "In view of our current development model, highly extractive and polluting, the European Ecological Pact, presented about a year ago, as the main bet for growth and the employment of the European Commission until 2030, places the preservation and recovery of natural capital at the center of the European political agenda and highlights the urgency of the transition to a new development paradigm, based on the principles of circular bioeconomy, namely, in nature-based solutions (bio-based solutions). ”

And he adds that "The necessary transformation will require large-scale innovation along companies' value chains, in order to create sustainable, if possible regenerative business models. However, Circular Bioeconomy is not just a challenge for companies, it has to involve all sectors of society.”

The CEO's Guide to the Circular Bioeconomy is the Portuguese version of the CEO Guide to the Circular Bioeconomy, launched on November 7, 2019 by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in collaboration with The Boston Consulting Group, and signed by 16 CEO of world leading companies.
