MarShopping hosted a LIPOR initiative that strengthened cork recycling under the project “Cork by Cork, Sow the Collection”

As part of the implementation of the Green Heart Certification, LIPOR held an initiative at MarShopping on 4 May dedicated to the project "Rolha a Rolha, Semeie a Recolha” (Cork by Cork, Sow the Collection), reinforcing the importance of recycling cork stoppers and the role of economic operators in building more sustainable habits.

The action helped raise awareness among food service retailers about the positive impact of cork recycling, with particular emphasis on the project developed in partnership with Quercus and LIPOR’s Associated Municipalities. The initiative also brought new participants on board, including restaurants and coffee shops, which now join this network of commitment.

Cork collection is free of charge and offers a simple way to transform waste into resources with environmental value. For every 50 stoppers collected, one native tree will be planted in Portugal, in an initiative that also involves BA Glass, Corticeira Amorim and Extruplás.

Besides contributing to reforestation, the project helps reduce CO₂ emissions associated with cork stoppers and encourages practices aligned with the circular economy and climate action.

With this presence at MarShopping, LIPOR strengthened its connection with the community and highlighted the importance of engaging citizens and businesses in a collective shift towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious territory.
