Moving Towards Zero Impact on the Planet

In the 2024 Integrated Report, we demonstrate our commitment to Zero Impact on the Planet through a business model based on the circular economy, carbon neutrality, and social innovation.

Throughout 2024, we continue to consolidate our integrated waste management system, where nothing is wasted: waste is treated as valuable resources, reintegrated into technical and biological cycles.

Through multi-material, organic, and energy recovery, recyclable materials are sent to the industry, organic waste is turned into NUTRIMAIS® compost, and trash is incinerated with energy and material recovery, such as slags and scrap.

"The best waste is the one that is not produced”, and, therefore, we place prevention as a strategic priority. Among other actions, we expanded the network of urban gardens in 2024, supported the repair of electrical equipment, promoted reuse markets, and boosted projects to fight food waste, such as "Dose Certa” and "Embrulha”.

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals and national and European commitments, we reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 40.4% compared to 2006 and use 100% renewable electricity in our operations. The goal for 2030 is ambitious: to reduce emissions by 50% and achieve climate neutrality by 2045.

Furthermore, the organisation maintains a certified Environmental Management System, promotes water efficiency, avoids emissions that affect the ozone layer, and ensures continuous monitoring of the impacts of its operations.
