Póvoa de Varzim Collection Machine has already collected more than 600 thousand packages

The Waste Collection Machine "Recycle to Win” has already surpassed the mark of 600 thousand packages collected. Installed two and a half years ago in the Póvoa de Varzim Municipal Market, the machine that integrates the "Recycle to Win” project collected 633 541 packages, a number that corresponds to around 50 tons of recyclable waste and 24600 users.

The machine, installed within the scope of the "Recycle to Win” project, developed by LIPOR and the municipality of Póvoa de Varzim, has delivered, since 2018, 5200 discount vouchers to residents who delivered the following materials: PET (e.g. water bottles or soft drinks); HDPE (e.g. liquid yoghurts); ECAL (e.g. juice or milk cartons); steel and aluminium (e.g. soda cans) and glass containers (e.g. water, juices, wine).
Under the umbrella of "Recycle to win”, the points achieved can be exchanged for discounts at the Municipal Market and Clube da Praia, for movie tickets at Cine-Teatro Garrett, for tickets at Varzim Lazer, Metro tickets, free surface parking or by books.

The "Recycle to Win” project is an example of the environmental concerns of the Póvoa de Varzim municipality which, over the past few years, has made several investments "so that future generations have a good quality of life on this planet”, as stated by the mayor Aires Pereira during the visit of the Minister of the Environment, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, to the Municipal Market, to get to know the machine for receiving recyclable waste, the first of its kind installed in the country.
