Serras do Porto: ten years celebrating Nature
Gondomar, Paredes and Valongo joined together on April 21st to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Association of Municipalities of the Serras do Porto Park, in a meeting marked by pride in the journey undertaken.
Among elected officials, technical teams and partners, the atmosphere was one of proximity and shared purpose, but also of reflection on what has been built over the past decade. Around six thousand hectares of preserved nature now form a green lung for the region, increasingly bringing Communities closer to their territory.
Created on 18 April 2016, the association was born from the shared ambition of the three municipalities to protect and revitalise the Serras do Porto Park. Ten years later, that ambition has taken shape in a project that combines conservation with environmental education, reconnecting people with a landscape that for many years went unnoticed.
Among the partners, LIPOR highlighted the work carried out on the ground. Over recent years, around seventy hectares have been restored, with the planting of 32,000 trees. This effort is only halfway, as the goal is 60,000 trees.
But more than numbers, one idea stood out: this work driven by purpose. For LIPOR, the project represents "the B side, the Biodiversity side".
The celebration was, above all, a moment to acknowledge and value the journey so far, without losing sight of what still lies ahead. Because, as became clear to everyone present, caring for the Serras do Porto is a continuous commitment to the territory, to its people and to the future.
