World Book Day: give stories a new life with LIPOR’s Bookcrossing

On World Book Day, LIPOR invites the Community to celebrate literature in a special way by sharing books and stories through its Bookcrossing stations.

Guided by the message "Books are far too precious to become waste”, this initiative turns the simple act of reading into an action for sustainability and human connection. After all, a book does not end when it is read. It gains a new life when it is shared.

Spread across LIPOR’s Associated Municipalities, the Bookcrossing stations work as small open libraries where anyone can leave a book they have already read and take another in exchange.

These stations can currently be found in Gondomar (Quinta do Passal), Maia (Quinta da Gruta), Matosinhos (Lavra Parish Council), Porto (1000 Paladares Restaurant), Póvoa de Varzim (Municipal Market), Valongo (Ermesinde Parish Council) and Vila do Conde (Municipal Swimming Pools).

The initiative promotes not only access to culture but also conscious consumption and reuse. From Portuguese and international literature to technical books, comics or cookery, there are always new stories waiting for curious readers (except for school textbooks, which are not included in this project).

On this World Book Day, take a book, leave another and help turn the world into a true library without walls.

More than recycling, it is about circulating knowledge, encouraging discovery and creating connections through stories. Because reusing is also a way of caring for culture.

Give your books freedom. Visit a LIPOR Bookcrossing station, share stories and take new readings with you.
