LIPOR celebrates Biodiversity Month

At a time when the importance of Biodiversity is recognized in the development of international policies and initiatives, of action for nature and of collaboration in the promotion of initiatives, it is necessary to increase the debate, putting it on the Agenda.

During the month of May, there are many commemorative days related to Biodiversity, namely the World Bee Day and the International Biodiversity Day.

At LIPOR, we associate ourselves with this theme, planning in May the promotion of a set of internal and external initiatives, thus actively contributing for the Sustainable Development Goal, SDG 15 – Protecting life on Earth.

See what we have prepared for you and participate:

  • May 4: Guardians of the Future Training – Biodiversity at home. In partnership with BIOPOLIS, Academia LIPOR shows how you can be an active contributor to nature, through training on how to enhance Biodiversity in daily actions.
  • From May 2 to 8: Serralves BioBlitz. The Serralves Foundation, LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities are promoting the 8th edition of BioBlitz, a leading educational and scientific event, within the scope of education and awareness for the Environment, Biodiversity and Sustainability aimed at the educational community and the public, especially for children and families.
  • May 14: LIPOR's BioBlitz. Come and discover the biodiversity of LIPOR's Adventure Park and Adventure Trail by participating in numerous activities of observation and identification of fauna and flora, in partnership with CIIMAR. Registrations available soon.
  • May 17: Webinar "40 years, 40 Species” and Launch of the Species Guide. Watch the Biodiversity Webinar to learn not only about LIPOR's Biodiversity Strategy but also Biodiversity Projects developed at national level.
  • May 21: Let’s talk about Biodiversity. In partnership with FNAC, you will be able to attend a conversation where biological diversity will be the starting point for a conversation between Tânia Pinto, from LIPOR, and Sónia Ferreira, PhD in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution and researcher at CIBIO-InBIO. Conversation is available on the FNAC Youtube channel and LIPOR social networks.
  • From May 23 to 27: Training Program "River Watchers – New River Guards”. Academia LIPOR presents a theoretical-practical classroom course, which has the scientific-pedagogical support of Engenho e Rio (E.Rio), where you can learn the functions of these professionals and acquire differentiated knowledge, such as, for example, cleaning the water lines or create ecological corridors.

For LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities, it is essential to change the paradigm and create management trends. We work so that these trends are supported by a synergistic culture, given the biodiversity and ecosystem services it provides. In this context, we understand that we must integrate the issues of preservation, promotion and restoration of biodiversity in our business strategy, developing a LIPOR Biodiversity Strategy, materialized in projects and initiatives. That's because stopping the loss of biodiversity is a global priority, but it's also our priority!
