Life Cycle Assessment of the Dose Certa Project Confirms Reduction in Food Waste

The objective of this study was to evaluate the environmental impacts of LIPOR's Dose Certa (Right Amount) project through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), a methodology that analyzes a product throughout its entire life cycle, quantifying its environmental impact (ISO, 2006a).

Three sub-studies of LCA were conducted. The first focused on analyzing the environmental impacts of a university cafeteria, the second examined the environmental impacts of a specific restaurant, and the third sub-study provided a general evaluation of the project in terms of quantifying food waste avoided in the 19 cafeterias and 7 restaurants involved in the Dose Certa project in 2022, to subsequently analyze its environmental performance.

The main conclusions of this work indicate that, compared to the results obtained in scenarios before and after the implementation of Dose Certa, all sub-studies observed a reduction in food waste and, consequently, a decrease in environmental impact.

For more information on the methodologies and results of this work, you can consult the full Study (in Portuguese) on our Dose Certa project page where you will also find some environmental indicators of the total CO2eq reduced through the implementation of this project.
