Mayors from The Czech Republic Visit Lipor’s Energy Recovery Plant
On June 12th, LIPOR welcomed a delegation of 12 Mayors from the Czech Republic who visited the Energy Recovery Plant (CVE) in Moreira da Maia to learn about the waste management model implemented in the Greater Porto area.
The visit aimed to share best practices and innovative solutions in the treatment and recovery of municipal waste, with a particular focus on energy production from residual waste. The Czech delegation was received by LIPOR representatives, who presented the operation of the Energy Recovery Plant — a key infrastructure for the region’s environmental sustainability, capable of treating around 400,000 tons of waste per year and generating electricity to supply approximately 150,000 inhabitants.
The Czech mayors showed great interest in Lipor’s integrated waste management system, which combines recycling, composting, and energy recovery, contributing to an efficient circular economy. The delegation highlighted the importance of such exchanges in developing more sustainable environmental policies in their municipalities.
This initiative reinforces Lipor’s position as an international benchmark in the field of waste recovery and underlines the European Union’s commitment to energy transition and carbon neutrality.
