President of the Maio Municipal Council approves solution designed by LIPOR
LIPOR took part in a technical meeting with the Maio Municipal Council as part of the ongoing service provision under LIPOR International – Global Waste Management on Maio Island.
The main objective of the meeting was to analyse the development of CITRES, a project underway in Cabo Verde supported by LIPOR’s expertise, and to present the proposed solution, jointly determining the best path forward for Maio Island.
The LIPOR consulting team presented the studies conducted and projections developed based on the island’s context. The selective collection solution for urban waste to be implemented across the island was also validated. This system includes three multimaterial streams – paper/cardboard, plastic/metal, and glass – enabling materials to be sent for recycling and contributing to the promotion of a circular economy on Maio.
The meeting also served to present the Communication and Environmental Education Programme designed for the project, as well as the next initiatives to be carried out on the island, aimed at engaging the community and fostering a sense of ownership around the project.
The meeting took place on October 15 at the Maio Island Youth Centre and was attended by representatives from Camões, I.P. and the Embassy of Portugal in Cabo Verde.
The CITRES Maio Project – Integrated Centre for Solid Waste Collection and Treatment on Maio Island is co-financed by the European Union and Portuguese Cooperation, through Camões, I.P., which, in addition to financial support, ensures the project’s implementation under a delegated cooperation model. The project involves LIPOR as an implementing partner and waste management specialist and has been under implementation since 2024.
