Steering Committee in consensus on the future of CITRES

On October 16, LIPOR took part in the Steering Committee meeting of the CITRES Project, which brought together representatives from the European Union, the National Directorate for the Environment (DNA), the National Water and Sanitation Agency of Cabo Verde (ANAS), the President of the Maio Municipal Council and members of his Executive Board, as well as representatives from Camões, I.P. and the Embassy of Portugal in Cabo Verde.

The main objectives of the meeting were to monitor the project’s implementation, review the schedule, and analyse the budget forecast, ensuring the project’s smooth and effective progress.

During the meeting, the current challenges identified in the project’s implementation were discussed. In a consensual and collaborative manner, and following a process of collective reflection and debate, the future directions for the project on Maio Island were defined.

It was also agreed that the CITRES Project would undergo reprogramming, with the execution period extended by one year.

By the first quarter of 2026, the Preliminary Studies and Environmental Impact Assessment are expected to be completed, marking a new phase and renewed momentum for the project’s implementation.

The CITRES Maio Project is co-financed by the European Union and Portuguese Cooperation, through Camões, I.P., which, in addition to financial support, ensures the project’s implementation under a delegated cooperation model.
