BRAZILIAN solid waste specialists visit LIPOR as part an International Benchmarking Programme
LIPOR welcomed, on Monday, 2 February, a delegation of senior representatives from Brazil’s solid waste sector as part of the 19th International Benchmarking Programme. The visit included tours of the LIPOR facilities in Maia and LIPOR in Baguim do Monte, with the aim of sharing knowledge and best practices in municipal waste management and recovery.
The Brazilian delegation included the Municipal Secretary for Urban Planning and Environment of the Municipality of São José dos Campos, the President of IEMA (State Environmental Institute), the Chief Executive Officer and the Controller of AGERJI (Regulatory Agency for Basic Sanitation Services of the Municipality of Ji-Paraná), and a professor from IFCE (Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Ceará).
In the afternoon, the programme began with a presentation entitled "Public Consortia for Municipal Waste Management in Portugal”, delivered by Paulo Praça, President of ESGRA. The presentation provided an overview of Portugal’s urban waste management systems.
This benchmarking initiative strengthens cooperation between Portugal and Brazil in the environmental sector. For the Brazilian specialists, LIPOR’s experience serves as a reference for the practical implementation of integrated waste management solutions, from collection to material and energy recovery.
