Environmental Impact Study of CITRES approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and environment of Cabo Verde
The CITRES Project – Integrated Centre for the Collection and Treatment of Solid Waste on Maio Island – has reached another important milestone with the approval of its Environmental Impact Study (EIS) by the competent authorities of Cabo Verde.
This approval represents a decisive step forward for the project, validating its environmental compliance and reinforcing CITRES’s commitment to implementing sustainable solutions aligned with the principles of the circular economy.
The assessment process included several technical phases, such as document analysis, on-site observations, and public consultation, ensuring a participatory and transparent approach. The approval of the EIA recognises the technical work carried out and the adoption of measures aimed at protecting natural resources, preserving ecosystems, and promoting public health on Maio Island, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve since 2020.
LIPOR International – Global Waste Management, as the implementing partner and waste management specialist, plays an active role in the development and execution of the project, contributing its technical
expertise and know-how to deliver sustainable solutions adapted to the local context. Its involvement also includes community training and awareness-raising actions for environmentally responsible practices, directly contributing to the transformation of the waste management and recovery system on Maio Island.
CITRES is a project funded by the European Union and Camões, I.P., and has been under implementation since 2024.
