Maio Island is pioneer in Cape Verde with the implementation of the Wayste platform

The Wayste Maio Waste Management Platform is now a reality on the Island of Maio.

Between 25 and 29 May, LIPOR International – Global Waste Management was present on the Island of Maio, Cape Verde, to implement the Wayste platform, within the scope of the CITRES Project – Integrated Centre for the Collection and Treatment of Solid Waste on the Island of Maio.

In partnership with Camões, I.P., a range of technical and operational activities related to the implementation of the digital platform were carried out over the course of one week.

Two on-the-job technical training sessions were also delivered to the Municipality of Maio, involving the municipal executive, technical coordination, and the urban waste management operational team, promoting knowledge transfer and strengthening local capacities for the use of the Wayste Maio platform.

With this implementation, the Municipality of Maio now has an automated urban waste monitoring and operational management system, positioning the Island of Maio as a pioneering and reference territory in Cape Verde in the use of technological tools supporting waste management.

This solution will strengthen performance analysis capabilities and produce reliable statistical information, which is essential for sector reporting and monitoring at the national level.

CITRES is a project funded by the European Union and Camões, I.P., with LIPOR participating as an implementing partner and waste management specialist and has been under implementation since 2024.
