LIPOR International participates in the portuguese delegation's mission to Barbados
Invited by CAMÕES, I.P., LIPOR International joined the Portuguese delegation on a mission to Barbados to gain first-hand insight into the local reality, its needs and challenges, with a view to identifying synergies and exploring future opportunities for cooperation. Attention was given to the sargassum seaweed challenge, which impacts several Caribbean nations.
Led by CAMÕES, I.P., and supported by the European Union Delegation to Barbados, the mission featured a comprehensive programme of meetings and exchanges with institutional, governmental, business and scientific stakeholders, complemented by a series of technical visits.
The mission was held in parallel with the CopernicusLAC Chile Caribbean Regional Workshop, a European Union initiative developed within the framework of the EU–Latin America and Caribbean Digital Alliance.
The sargassum seaweed challenge is growing in scale across several Caribbean countries, having a significant impact on tourism, the region’s main source of income and a key driver of local economies. Identifying sustainable solutions tailored to local realities is the primary objective, while always considering the magnitude and scale of an issue that affects multiple nations.
This exploratory mission was instrumental in assessing local needs, gathering valuable information and establishing contacts with key stakeholders. It also highlighted Portugal’s willingness to contribute to addressing a challenge that affects several countries across the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region.
With strong foundations now in place, the first step towards future cooperation has been successfully taken.
