Casa do Corim - the Place of Sustainability wins Essência do Ambiente Award in the Social and Environmental Responsibility category
Casa do Corim – the Place of Sustainability has been honoured with the 2025 Essência do Ambiente Award in the Social and Environmental Responsibility category, a distinction that highlights the project’s impact in promoting sustainability, environmental education and community engagement.
Owned by Maia Municipality and managed by LIPOR since late 2022 under a Commodatum Agreement, Casa do Corim has evolved into a true Sustainability Hub, where environmental education, social innovation, entrepreneurship, culture and community participation come together.
With a continuous and diverse programme, the space hosts workshops, exhibitions, cultural and environmental activities, capacity building sessions, gatherings and initiatives aimed at the community, businesses and organisations. In 2025, it welcomed more than 5,000 visitors, recording a growth of around 25 percent compared with the previous year, strengthening its role as a driver of community involvement and urban regeneration.
Located in an eighteenth-century historic house and set within an area of significant ecological richness and biodiversity, recognised with the Green Flag Award, Casa do Corim brings together heritage, nature and innovation, promoting practices aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, namely SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.
The distinction was awarded following a public vote, reflecting recognition of the work carried out and of the relevance of this space as a reference point in the promotion of sustainable practices.
More than an award, this distinction reinforces the mission of Casa do Corim - the Place of Sustainability to continue inspiring citizens, organisations and territories, demonstrating that local action can generate positive, lasting and replicable impact.
