Casa do Corim – The Place of Sustainability once again opened the door to History

Casa do Corim – The Place of Sustainability hosted two more sessions of the series "Conversas com História(s)” (talks with history), reinforcing its role as a space for encounter, reflection and shared learning around culture, sustainability, art and contemporary citizenship.

The first session, held on 29 May, explored the theme "Wearing Identity: Fashion, Art and Sustainability in Motion" and offered the audience a unique experience combining conversation, living installation and performative presentation. Designer Eugénia Cunha, creator of the exhibition "Natureza Entretecida”, developed in partnership with the Bobbin Lace Museum of Vila do Conde, led a reflection on fashion as a vehicle for cultural expression, heritage preservation and the promotion of sustainable practices.

The conversation also featured Ivone Pereira, coordinator of the Bobbin Lace Museum of Vila do Conde, who highlighted the importance of dialogue between handcraft tradition and contemporary creation. Throughout the session, different pieces were modelled, allowing the audience to experience clothing in motion and understand how design can bring together memory, identity, innovation and environmental awareness.

On 26 June, Casa do Corim welcomed the talk "The Besieged Porto: secrets, resistance and memory of Casa do Corim", led by Professor Sérgio Veludo Coelho, a researcher dedicated to the history of Porto and nineteenth century liberalism.

Organised in partnership with the Military Museum of Porto, the session took participants on a journey through the city under siege during the Siege of Porto, exploring lesser-known episodes of the conflict, the daily lives of its inhabitants, civil support networks and the role played by different protagonists in the liberal resistance. Casa do Corim emerged as a central element of this reflection, revealing its connection to one of the most significant moments in the city’s history.

Throughout the conversation, historical contexts and interpretations were shared, enabling participants to understand how nineteenth century events continue to shape the collective identity of Porto and the wider region.

With distinct approaches but united by the goal of valuing both tangible and intangible heritage, the two sessions demonstrated Casa do Corim’s ability to foster dialogue between past, present and future. Whether through sustainable fashion and the appreciation of artisanal traditions, or through a critical revisiting of Porto’s history, the encounters reaffirmed the mission of this space as a platform for knowledge, participation and the building of more sustainable Communities.

The "Conversas com História(s)" series will continue to bring new perspectives and insights on themes that shape contemporary society, consolidating Casa do Corim as a place where memory, creativity and sustainability meet.
