LIPOR celebrates National Sustainability Day with an integrated strategy for creating and sharing value
On 25 September, Portugal celebrates National Sustainability Day, a moment that invites reflection on the importance of integrating sustainability principles into decision making and into the way organisations and society shape the future. LIPOR has long been at the forefront of efforts towards Sustainability. Over more than four decades of activity, we have developed and consolidated an Integrated Waste Management System, aligned with the most advanced policies, guidelines and trends in the sector.
Since 2005, sustainability has played a central role in LIPOR’s strategy, guiding the continuous improvement of the Organisation’s performance, the maximisation of the positive impact of its activity and the creation of shared value. Today, sustainability holds a position of prominence within the Organisation, and this strong commitment is expressed across the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) dimensions, with annual and long‑term targets set through to 2030.
A strategy built with stakeholders
LIPOR’s sustainability strategy is built on an essential principle: listening to and involving its Stakeholders.
Ongoing dialogue with employees, municipalities, communities, customers, suppliers and other partners enables us to understand expectations, concerns and priorities, incorporating them into decision‑making processes.
This approach also underpins the double materiality assessment, which allows LIPOR to identify and evaluate, simultaneously, the impacts of its activity on people and the environment, and the sustainability risks and opportunities that may influence the Organisation’s performance. It is from this integrated aproach that a strategy emerges, focused on the themes most relevant to LIPOR and its Stakeholders, and expressed in the LIPOR Sustainability Agenda, structured around five dimensions: People, Planet, Prosperity, Partnerships and Peace.
Sustainability with transparency
Sustainability also requires measuring, monitoring and reporting on the path taken. Since 2005, LIPOR has voluntarily published sustainability reports, embracing transparency as an integral part of its relationship with Stakeholders.
The Integrated Report 2025 presents the Organisation’s strategy, performance and key results across the ESG dimensions. Prepared in line with best reporting practices, the Integrated Report follows the guidelines of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) and, for the sustainability component, the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards. The financial statements follow the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), as adopted by the European Union.
More than a reporting exercise, this document seeks to show, in an integrated way, how LIPOR creates and shares value and how sustainability is embedded in its activity, decisions and relationship with communities.

At Casa do Corim, sustainability happens with the community
To celebrate National Sustainability Day, LIPOR is promoting a special programme on 26 September at Casa do Corim – The Place of Sustainability. Under the theme "The Place Happens”, the initiative invites the community to explore different ways of living sustainability in everyday life, through reuse, repair, creativity, local consumption, knowledge sharing and resource appreciation.
From 2pm to 7pm, Casa do Corim hosts a programme featuring a Flea Market, Mini Urban Market, Repair Café, Story Time, workshops, music and a Showcase of Sustainable Projects – an invitation to experiment, learn, exchange and give new opportunities to objects and resources.
It is also a way of bringing to the community the principles that guide LIPOR’s sustainability strategy, showing that sustainability goes far beyond waste management. It is present in choices, relationships, the ability to reuse, repair, share and find new ways of doing.
Because at LIPOR, sustainability is a strategy, but it is also a way of being and of creating value together. It is a way of life.
