Discover the nature of Serralves Park with LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities

May 2 to 8

The Serralves Foundation, LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities are promoting, from May 2 to 8, the 8th edition of BioBlitz, an important pedagogical and scientific event, within the scope of education and awareness for the Environment, Biodiversity and Sustainability aimed at the educational community and the general public, with emphasis on children and families.

According to José Manuel Ribeiro, Chairman of the Board of Directors of LIPOR "Transforming waste into new resources by implementing innovative and circular practices, generating and sharing value is our Mission. But there is another side of LIPOR that we want you to discover: our B-side. BioBlitz is part of our B-side.”

It is an event that encourages everyone to build a contemporary narrative for sustainability, based on the global guiding principles of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, with emphasis on the Sustainable Development Goal "Protect Life on Earth”, and its association with causes such as COP 15, which will take place this year in Kunming, China.

A new format, why?

The 2021 edition of BioBlitz, although in a digital format for schools and in person, only during the weekend, for the general public, brought 55,022 visitors to Serralves, from more than 280 schools across the country. A significantly higher number than in 2019, which reached a total of 49,732 visitors from over 150 schools.

This year, now in its 8th edition, BioBlitz reinforces the prevalence of its role in communication on biodiversity. Going beyond its original vocation, currently, the event is not exclusively a "lightning” moment to assess the biodiversity of Serralves Park but is differentiated by the set of challenges that communicate causes, share tools, resources and methodologies that support the activation of schools in the implementation of similar activities and actions.

This modus operandi was the basis for the option of holding a hybrid event, suited to the current educational reality, opening the opportunity for participation to all schools, either in person or digitally. In this new format, BioBlitz will expand its scope, making it accessible to a greater number of schools across the country, mainland and islands.

Thus, in 2022, the event appears for the educational community in a new, hybrid format. In person, during the week of May 2 to 6, and digitally, using a multimedia platform specially designed to support the activities planned for the event. For the public, on May 7 and 8, with free access and exclusively in person at Parque de Serralves.
