LIPOR, Póvoa de Varzim Services School and Póvoa de Varzim City Council sign Commitment Letter

Within the scope of the Sustainability Project developed by the School of Services of Póvoa de Varzim (ES), today, September 22, a Letter of Commitment was signed between this Institution, LIPOR and the Municipality of Póvoa de Varzim, whose main objective is to promote sustainability and the dissemination of good environmental practices, namely in the context of the correct management of urban waste generated in its facilities.

This signature of this Commitment Letter represents the formalization of the strategic cooperation that has been developed between the different partners with the aim of obtaining the "Coração Verde LIPOR” Certification.

This Commitment Letter thus brings together efforts to:
  • Define a set of good practices that contribute to affirming the sustainable practices of the ES of Póvoa de Varzim;
  • Draw a strategic vision for the correct and sustainable waste management for the entire community of ES in Póvoa de Varzim;
  • Recognize the good practices adopted and lead ES to the "Coração Verde LIPOR” Certification.

LIPOR's Customized Environmental Intervention Service (SIAC) is the result of the experience of developing several initiatives to optimize waste management processes in different organizations that can be adapted to new realities promoting long-lasting changes and very positive results.

The development process of the entire project and the implementation of concrete actions on the ground with the Community of ES, started in January 2019, translating into the following indicators:
  • Monitoring of the quantitative and qualitative evolution of the multimaterial fraction, namely of plastic/metal and glass, packaging waste, paper/cardboard and food waste;
  • Delivery of approximately 102 tons of waste for recycling and/or organic recovery;
  • Elimination of more than 60 points of surplus equipment intended for the reception of the mixed waste fraction and reorientation and creation of about 50 points placed in strategic areas for the reception of recyclable waste;
  • Participation of about 450 military personnel in direct awareness actions;
  • Direct intervention of Lipor and Póvoa Municipality technicians with more than 30 hours of work (diagnosis, implementation and monitoring).

The Póvoa de Varzim ES is today an example of how the Portuguese Army can also be a reference for sustainability.
