LIPOR presented with the Green Flag Award for third consecutive year

LIPOR's Adventure Park & Ecological Trail has been presented with the Green Flag Award for the third year in a row. This recognition is an international standard for the quality of public green spaces.

The award recognises LIPOR's pioneering strategy, which dates back to the 1990s, of transforming the former landfill site into an Adventure Park & Ecological Trail, located in Ermesinde (Valongo) and Baguim do Monte (Gondomar). In this infrastructure, we welcome more than fifty thousand visitors every year to explore and enjoy the green area while learning about waste and biodiversity.

Over 25 years old, the program uses eight key criteria to assess the management structure of each area and carries out an annual check, through a network of qualified judges. This year, Claire Pick and Steven Cuthill, Bedford Borough Council's Environmental Viability and Development Technician and the City of Edinburgh Council's Green Spaces Development Manager, were responsible for the verification visit that enabled the certification to be renewed for the 2023/24 period.
