LIPOR presents innovative solutions for the circular economy at the Portugal Smart Cities Summit 2026

LIPOR was present in the 12th edition of the Portugal Smart Cities Summit, which was held from 12 to 14 May 2026 at FIL - Parque das Nações in Lisbon, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, sustainability and the development of smart solutions for the territories of the future.

Recognised as the largest national event dedicated to smart cities, the Portugal Smart Cities Summit brings together companies, startups, municipalities, universities, research centres and specialists to discuss and showcase projects that are transforming the urban future. The Summit has established itself as a strategic space for sharing knowledge, networking and presenting innovative solutions for more sustainable, efficient and connected cities.

Throughout the three days of the event, LIPOR hosted a stand where it presented the results and solutions developed under the CircularTech Consortium, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), which aims to accelerate the transition to a circular economy by transforming waste into valuable resources.

As part of the CircularTech Consortium, led by BEE2SOLUTIONS and comprising nineteen partner entities including companies, municipalities, research bodies and associations, LIPOR participates as a Public Partner Entity, contributing with its know-how on the development of smart waste disposal and collection solutions, citizen interaction and the promotion of resource reuse. Three of the main technological solutions developed under this funding were presented at the event:

ReCompensa App
A new digital app that makes sustainability accessible to everyone, supporting conscious daily choices through simple, intuitive and practical solutions. Using a gamification system, users can be rewarded for their sustainable choices, with benefits that include access to LIPOR Academy courses, associated products and participation in workshops.

The application will also offer a personalised experience based on each user’s municipality of residence, strengthening the connection between citizens, municipalities and LIPOR, and encouraging more active participation in local sustainability.

RFID Wristband
Developed in partnership with NEVOA Technologies, this innovative solution consists of an RFID reading device in wristband format, designed to improve the monitoring of waste management operations.

The prototype increases flexibility in the collection and processing of operational data, while reducing the costs associated with traceability systems and contributing to more efficient resource management.

Containers with controlled access
LIPOR also presented the smart collection project using containers with controlled access, currently being implemented in the municipalities of Gondomar, Póvoa de Varzim, Valongo and Vila do Conde.

The solution includes containers equipped with electronic locks, accessible only through electronic identifiers provided to residents. This system improves the efficiency of selective collection and encourages more effective recycling practices.

LIPOR’s participation in the Portugal Smart Cities Summit 2026 reinforced its position as a national reference in sustainable waste management and in the creation of innovative solutions that promote more circular, intelligent and environmentally responsible territories, prepared for the challenges of the future.
