LIPOR’s "Operação Tampinhas" generates €29.28 in Social Value for every €1 invested

LIPOR announces the results of the social impact assessment of  "Operação Tampinhas" (Operation Bottle Caps), a project that made a difference over 20 phases, from 2006 to 2024. For every euro invested in the project, €29.28 of social value* was generated.

This result reflects not only the initiative’s importance in directly supporting hundreds of people but also the indirect benefits it brought to society, including:

  • Reduced government spending on orthopedic and similar equipment;
  • Increased participation of family members in the job market, thanks to the beneficiaries improved autonomy;
  • Reduced need for medical and psychological consultations due to improved quality of life and well-being;
  • Public visibility, as evidenced by the number of media stories published.

About "Operação Tampinhas"

Launched in 2006, the initiative challenged citizens and institutions to collect plastic bottle caps for recycling, using the proceeds to purchase orthopedic equipment. The numbers speak for themselves:

  • 1,033 tons of caps sent for recycling;
  • €668,254 invested in the purchase of equipment;
  • 2,094 orthopedic and similar equipment delivered;
  • 740 direct beneficiaries supported.

With the entry into force of new legislation requiring plastic caps to remain attached to their packaging, "Operação Tampinhas” ends after 20 phases. However, LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities emphasize that this is only the beginning of new paths in social and environmental responsibility, which will soon be announced.

A Cycle ends, a Commitment continues

"Operação Tampinhas” was only possible thanks to the dedication of thousands of citizens, institutions, and organizations who united for a greater cause.

We are all involved in social and environmental causes, which are essential for building sustainable and more humane communities. This is just the end of a chapter. LIPOR’s commitment to social responsibility is ongoing.

Stay tuned for updates and continue with us on this journey toward a more compassionate and sustainable future.

* At LIPOR, we use the Social Impact Measurement Tool as a methodology for evaluating the social impact of projects, monetizing their social inputs and outputs through indicators that can be measured during a project. This is based on SROI – Social Return on Investment – and draws upon the knowledge acquired by the LIPOR team.
