Matosinhos presents the results of the Rolha a Semeie Recolha project with the symbolic plantation of a tree

On the morning of March 12, in Jardim Senhor do Padrão, a plantation took place as part of the Rolha a Semeie Recolha (Cork by cork, sow the collection) campaign, which included the participation of the Mayor of Matosinhos Luísa Salgueiro, Vice-president of Matosinhos City Council and Administrator of LIPOR Manuela Álvares and representatives of some clients participating in the project.

The campaign "Cork the cork, sow the collection” is operated by the Municipality of Matosinhos in partnership with LIPOR, Quercus, Rede Ambiente and participating commercial establishments. The campaign also counts on the partnership of companies such as Amorim, Extruplás and BA Glass.

As part of the campaign's motto, an indigenous tree is planted for every 50 corks collected. The project in the Municipality of Matosinhos began in 2023 and resulted in the collection of 64 kg of cork stoppers, equivalent to around 12,700 units, which translated into approximately 254 new trees.

This project aims to promote the recycling of cork, whose environmental advantages are numerous, as it can be transformed and reintegrated into coatings, insulation, memoboards, high-competition kayaks, badminton rackets, tennis and cricket balls, and also contributes to fight climate change, by reducing CO2 emissions retained in cork stoppers, and increasing CO2 retention capacity by planting new trees.

This location was chosen to mark this result in a public space in the city, where the planted tree symbolizes the new 254 trees that will be planted in a more suitable area, already identified by the Municipality of Matosinhos, and which is a guarantee that this reforestation will last in the future.
