European Week for Waste Reduction

Let's put a stop to waste!

We've partnered with an initiative which aims to raise awareness on sustainable resources and sustainable waste management: European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR).

During this week, the whole of Europe aims to give a special dimension to the event through a large number of initiatives, strengthening each action and raising citizen awareness.

This initiative is for everyone! Entities; Public Administration; Companies/Industries; Non-Governmental Organizations; Educational Establishments (Schools and Universities) and Citizens, groups or individuals, are all invited to take part in the European Week for Waste Reduction.

What are the main goals of the EWWR?

  • to increase awareness about reducing waste, reusing products, and recycling strategies for materials in the European Union and in Member States;
  • to highlight the work carried out by those who participate in the EWWR;
  • to mobilize and encourage European citizens to develop initiatives around the key themes of the Week;
  • to enhance the training of the EWWR stakeholders, providing specific communication and training tools.

EWWR 2025: Addressing the growing WEEE challenge

Let's reveal the thematic focus of the 2025 edition of EWWR. Drum roll please…
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (widely known as WEEE or e-waste).

But why WEEE?
The amount of WEEE generated annually in the EU is increasing rapidly. It is currently one of the fastest-growing waste streams. WEEE includes a wide range of devices, such as cell phones, computers, televisions, refrigerators, household appliances, lamps, medical devices, and photovoltaic panels.

This waste type contains a complex mixture of materials, some of which are hazardous. If not managed properly, discarded devices can cause major environmental and health problems. Modern electronic products also contain rare and expensive resources, including essential raw materials, which can be recycled and reused if waste is managed effectively.

Some facts:

In the EU:
  • 4.4 million tons of electronic equipment are placed on the market annually;
  • 5 million tons of WEEE are collected;
  • 11.2 kg of WEEE per person are collected.
The most recent figures are from 2022 and can be found on Eurostat.

Our goal during EWWR 2025 is to raise awareness about the negative impacts of this type of waste. We aim to highlight the importance of reusing and repairing devices before discarding them, but mainly to reduce the demand for new electronic and electrical equipment, promoting more sustainable consumption and production patterns that require fewer resources. By doing so, we can preserve valuable materials, which are also damaging, not only to the environment but also to human health when extracted.

In an increasingly technological world, let's be aware of our footprint.
