HOOP

OPEN MARKET CONSULTATION

Through HOOP Project - vitalization of circular bioeconomy, LIPOR is running an Open Market Consultation to find solutions for nutrient recovery present in the liquid digestate coming from the future anaerobic digestion plant.
Starting from a project to build an anaerobic digestion plant, for 60,000 tons of food waste, the challenge for the market is related to the treatment of the liquid fraction of the digestate produced, after phase separation (effluent), in order to respond to legal requirements for discharge/treatment in a WWTP and, at the same time, recover nutrients (phosphorus and ammonia nitrogen), for valorisation and production of new bioproducts. Both nitrogen and phosphorus are valuable nutrients essential for fertilizer products.

A hybrid "meet-the-market” session will be held on April 9th, free but with mandatory registration at https://hoopproject.eu/

The HOOP Project is a European initiative funded by the Horizon 2020 Program, comprising a consortium of 23 partners from 10 European countries. HOOP aims to provide Project Development Assistance (PDA) to a group of eight Lighthouse cities / regions, providing them with the administrative, technical, economic, financial and legal knowledge necessary to unlock concrete investments and develop bioeconomy initiatives at the local level.

HOOP has a strong network of partners, including eight important lighthouse regions and three entities responsible for the coordination of reference projects for bio-based products: CETENMA (VALUEWASTE), ITENE (SCALIBUR), and SAV (WaysTUP!).

LIPOR will participate in the HOOP project as a Lighthouse region, seeking to consolidate the position of Greater Porto as a reference for circular economy and for the production of bio-based products from bio-waste.

In addition to Greater Porto (through LIPOR), the regions selected to develop this ambitious project are Murcia (Spain), Bergen (Norway), Kuopio (Finland), Almere (Netherlands), Albano-Laziale (Italy), Kozani (Greece), and Münster (Germany). These locations represent a panoply of dimensions, climates and socio-economic contexts, being distributed throughout Europe. HOOP's Lighthouse regions will act as demonstrators to replicate circular bioeconomy models across Europe and other international territories. After the implementation of this project (2020-2024), the results will be converted into concrete investments (estimated at € 51.7 million) in urban bioeconomy initiatives.

To capitalize on the results of the project, HOOP will develop an online platform that will provide opportunities for a network of follower regions, allowing them to replicate the models, experiences and good practices developed in the Lighthouse regions. This network will be composed of locations that show interest in participating in the replication and exchange of experiences with the regions.
